QR Codes – An Introduction

QR CodesIn my post about the Digital Marketing Viewpoint in New York I mentioned how QR codes have not quite taken off in popularity yet in Ireland. However there was an announcement made during the week announcing that the Digital Reach Group have a new partnership deal with Metro Herald to provide Quick Response (QR) codes as part of the newspaper’s advertising portfolio.

This partnership will push QR codes into the mainstream in Ireland as the Metro Herald’s audience are young, smartphone users who usually read the paper on the go. Continue reading

YouTube Instant

So while we’re getting used to the fact that Google Instant Will Change The Way We Search, I’ve found something pretty interesting I think is definitely worth sharing; YouTube Instant. While this is not an official enhancement, it’s still a neat little feature that got a student a job offer from Mr Facebook so it’s definitely worth sharing here.

YouTube Instant

So Guys, is YouTube Instant going to take over from YouTube.com any time soon? I’m using it more than YouTube.com at the moment. Not having any ads is nice although not really sustainable if it’s to become a serious entity.

Google Instant Will Change The Way We Search

Google introduced a new feature this week called Google Instant that will change the way we search. The benefits of Google Instant being 1) faster searches, 2) smarter predictions and 3) instant results.

As we know by now, Google loves relevancy, it’s basically the number one rule they encourage people to follow when creating AdWords PPC ads (if you do this, you have an increased quality score, lower costs per click and usually a better click through rate) and the key thing Google Instant does for users is make things more relevant as well as saving time. Think about it, this is great news for the user. Continue reading

Tipp-Ex-Mouse

I came across this viral YouTube video by Tipp-Ex last week in work and felt compelled to share it. It wasn’t until I went home that evening and listened to it that I actually realised how cool and intelligent it is. As a marketer, I love viral videos, they’re entertaining and they increase brand awareness but will this increase the bottom line? Continue reading

Google Realtime – A Realtime Search Engine for Social Media

Google realtime searchBelow Aindreas wrote a great post outlining all the acquisitions Google have made in different markets since 2001. And although Google are never shy about splashing their cash when they spot a good deal, for example Youtube in November 2006 and DoubleClick in March 2007 they are of course market leaders in their own right.

In December 2009 Google introduced real-time search results into its browser. So you could see the most relevant content being posted about a particular search term from a number of different sources that would be constantly updated on the screen in front of you. This came as a response to the increased use of social media and the increasing need to be aware of what was being said and when. Continue reading

Three Ireland Badly Need Social Media

Following on from my previous post about why your business needs social media, I’ve come across a peach of an example to explain to you why Three Ireland badly need Social Media. One of the major golden benefits of social media and online in general is the possibility of your brand taking off and going viral, this is euphoria for a brand and what all major brands strive to achieve. A company that is stupendous at doing this is Nike; in fact they are so good, they hold the record for having the most amount of views for a viral video debut in it’s first week.

Who, What, When and now… Where!

Facebook PlacesFacebook officially launched its highly anticipated “Places” platform two days ago (18.08.2010). It allows you to check in to different locations (basically they’ve integrated Foursquares USP into their own offering). Places is a location based application that uses geo location technology. You can now be sitting in your favourite pub having a pint and “check-in” to that pub, tag your friends who are there as well and also see who else is there via the “people here now” feed that shows you who else is checked into that particular location.  This feature only appears on the screen for a short time and is optional so you can opt not to be seen “here now”.
